Name idea from Margie

Margie just came into my office and was discussing my recent disappointment with finding out that "Emma" is currently #4 in the baby girl names. I don't really like the idea of having a popular girl name, but I really wanted something with "Em" as a possible nickname. Margie said she had insomnia last night and came up with the name "Emery". I kind of like it! Works for both a boy and a girl. I will mull over it for a while...

Also, we finished "Flowers for Algernon" about a week ago. The last 40 pages or so that Andrew was reading, I cried like a little girl. I really enjoyed the book overall though. I am hoping the next book we read to Feetsy is more upbeat. I am not sure about "A Prayer for Owen Meany" then. Liz says it can be pretty rough. What's with all the sad books? Maybe we should read Feetsy something by George Carlin or something.

That is all for now.

At 16 weeks, Feetsy is about the size of an Avacado

I am doing quite well as of late. There have been a few issues with heartburn, but besides that I am feeling pretty great. Andrew has been good about making dinner recently since the idea of handling raw meat is still quite unappealing to me. I have really appreciate that. In return, I have taken over the dish-washing duties.

This past weekend I cleaned out the closet in the baby room. I figure why not do it now while I still have the capacity to move around freely and don't get too tired too quickly. I am thinking we also need a closet organizer for all the baby clothes and stuff. I had heard about "nesting" and wondered it this was what I was doing trying to get the house in good shape. But, based on what I read, this nesting stuff doesn't usually start until closer to the due date. Oh well, maybe I am just trying to keep my hands and my thoughts occupied to help pass the time.

There is a definite baby bump in the works. I have only one pair of pre-prego pants that still fit and they sit pretty low. Those maternitity pants are pretty comfy though. Can't say I would mind just switching over to those...

Yesterday, I used the prenatal massage gift certificate that Little Brother got me for Christmas. It was fabulous and very relaxing. At one point I was daydreaming that I was in my happy place and Andrew and Feetsy and I were sitting under a kumquat tree next to a brook. Andrew was being goofy and making both Feetsy and I laugh. It was such a nice reverie that I almost chuckled outloud on the massage table. HA! In my daydream Feetsy started out as "Emma" but then turned into "Emmet" after I reminded myself that I still don't know the sex of little Feetsy. Anyway, if anyone needs any birthday gift ideas there is one for sure. Anyway, I may try to get one of those every once in a while for the rest of the pregnancy.

That is the update for now...

This year's new psychological thriller: The Quickening

I woke up at around 3am and felt a fluttering in my lower abdomen that lasted for a good second or so. I was quite lucid (after having just let out the pups) and immediately just felt like it was little "Feetsy" moving around. Of course, after yesterday's post it could all just be suggestion. It was still pretty cool though!

Update on "Feetsy"

Last Wednesday we had our end-of-the-first-trimester check-in with Feetsy. Feetsy's heart rate was about 140-150 bpm, which is in the expected range. My blood pressure was better than it has been in a while, and my weight gain is right on track with about 3.5 lbs the first three months. Things appear to be going along swimmingly.

We have another checkup on February 2nd, the day before I leave for a conference in Daytona Beach. Then, on Valentines Day, we get to find out the sex of "Feetsy". This will be an exciting day for sure! We haven't decided whether we are going to find out during the actual appointment, or whether we will ask them to put it in an envelope so that we can open it over dinner. I think there are pluses and minuses to both. Oh well, no need to think about it for a few weeks.

On a related "thinking" note, did you know that you actually lose gray matter in your brain when you become pregnant? This is funny to me because I had heard another pregnant woman had been having issues with coming up with the right words for things and remembering things. I thought to myself, "Phew, dodged that bullet" because I didn't think this was occuring with me. Little did I know, I would just have to wait a couple of weeks. Now, this prego brain deficiency is running full force. Kind of frustrating.

Finally, we heard that last week (week 14) is the week that Feetsy can start to hear our voices. So, Andrew and I started reading to Feetsy. Andrew wanted to read one of his favorite books as a kid: Flowers for Algernon. It's pretty great! We are about 1/3 of the way through. I choose to get your standard children's books to read. I like to make the different voices. I think it makes it more entertaining for Feetsy.

Finally, I haven't really experienced any significant "quickening" event, which should happen any day now. I did experience a slight "flutter" in my lower abdomen the other day when I was getting up from the bed. I wondered if that was Feetsy, but I guess there is no way to know until you know. I will update once I am sure that little "Feetsy" is kicking around in there. Should be soon, I hear that Feetsy is about the size of an apple now.

Back into Yoga this past week. I promised myself that if I kept up with it 3 times a week over the next month, I would spring for a gym membership so that I could start enjoying some pool time. So far, I am doing alright. It is pretty relaxing, except you do a lot of lunges in prenatal yoga. This would be okay, except lunges are some of my most hated forms of exercise.

That's the update for now. Hopefully some pictures soon.
